Jean Paul Gaultier Launches New Fragrance

French designer Jean Paul Gaultier is well-known for his line of fragrances, with the bottles instantly recognisable on any shelf.

Now the fashion house is launching its latest fragrance – Scandal – with the design of the bottle paying homage to the performers at the Moulin Rouge. The perfume itself will be launched initially in France on 17 June, Sunday World revealed.

It will then be made available elsewhere in Europe from September, and globally in October.

Speaking to the news provider, chief brand officer of Puig, which owns the label’s fragrance and fashion, Jose Manuel Albesa explained that it was important for this new perfume to encompass “all the values and DNA of Jean Paul Gaultier”.

The start of the process to create the fragrance involved an in-depth conversation with the designer himself about his thoughts about femininity and his vision as a whole.

“We wanted to offer a different version from others; we wanted something more spicy, festive, sexy and fun. So everything started around that,” Mr Albesa stated.

Creating new fragrances can be incredibly challenging, with French perfumer Frederic Malle recently talking to the National about some of the most significant perfumes he’s had a hand in crafting.

He started his own business – Editions – to help brands develop “high-quality, innovative scents”, because he didn’t like the rise of one-size-fits-all perfumes. Among the fragrances he cited as being particularly important in his career were Superstitious and The Night, which he created in collaboration with Dominique Ropion.
